White Balance as a Filter

Picture
Your new photo assignment is to take pictures using white balance as a filter. In the PowerPoint I showed you how colors in an image (which white balance is responsible for) can really create a specific feel in an image. This assignment is to choose a white balance setting that provides a cast (warm or cool color feel over the image) and take a picture that will take advantage of this coloring to enhance the feel of the photo. If the pic is sad or scary, give it a blue cast with a blue white balance setting.

Using your phone? You will need to install the free Adobe Lightroom app and allow it to access your camera. This app has the ability to take pictures and serve as a replacement for the camera app that comes with your phone. Unlike the normal camera app, with Lightroom you can make changes to your cameras setting, such as white balance. See the screen shot to the left. Once in the camera section of the app, ensure that your in Pro mode. Then you can click on white balance to get the row of choices to pop up above the settings.

Also, for more information on using white balance as a photo, including an example, check out this web page.
