Calendar
The final project for the class is to build a calendar using your pictures. This is a big project that takes quite a bit of time and is worth quite a bit of points too! The best part is that you will have your own calendar to use for the next year!
Start by choosing a theme. With a theme, that you can design around and take pictures for, it will be much easier to make a consistent calendar. Family, friends, pets, music... whatever your into, build a calendar around it. After choosing a theme, develop 4 thumbnail sketches for the design. To do this, grab a fresh sheet of paper and fold it in half and then in half again the other way. This will create four boxes, one for each thumbnail. In each thumbnails, experiment with putting the month name, the calendar grid, the photo(s), or anything else that you may want on your calendar into different locations. The idea is to mix it up and create a design that you like and think looks great.

After creating four sketches, grab a sheet of tabloid (11" x 17") paper and draw the layout at full size. Take your time here! This document will serve as your blueprint for building the calendar in In Design, so without a good, detailed rough, you can't start building on the computer. The video below will describe the process, just keep in mind that despite what you see, yours will be drawn with a pencil and ruler.
Finally, with the rough drawn and measured correctly, it is time to begin construction in In Design. This handout will walk you through this process. The video below will also get you started on the project in InDesign
