Beauty Touchups

Ninety five percent of the images you see on a daily basis have been Photoshopped or edited. Most images in the real world aren't just taken from the camera and published on the web or printed. Most images are edited, and sometimes pretty aggressively.

When you go to the grocery store and your standing in line at the checkout looking at the cover on the tabloids, there is a reason that the celebrities on the cover look awful. In those shots, the celebrity hasn't been touched up digitally. That shot is how they look in really life. Sure, the photographer could have just caught them on a bad day or without any makeup on, but it's also that they haven't been given a digital makeover in Photoshop.

Dove has a campaign that aims to change how we see peoples beauty. It's a little ironic that they sell beauty products and they are the ones trying to get us to look at each other outside of cosmetic beauty, but it's a great message. We see beautiful people on TV and the web all the time, but they have been altered to look that way, so it's no wonder that we can't always reach their level. This video shows you the extent of how models and celebrities can be Photoshopped.
So this unit focuses on beauty touchups that we can do in Photoshop. I doing this to show you what Photoshop is capable of and how we can use Photoshop to emulate the fashion industry, not because we should all look like the models we see! As you use theses tools and tricks, consider how ethical and honest it is to make these alterations!
