Merging Assignment Part 2

So now you should have a good selection. If you're not happy with your selection, go back and edit it. You're project will only look as legit as your selection, so that one of the most important things to do on this assignment. But if your selection is good, it's time to adjust the color.

Adjusting Color

This may sound odd, but every light has it's own color temperature. We don't take pictures in school for your weekend's assignment because the lighting in school is fluorescent. Fluorescent light shine with a greenish cast that makes people and pictures appear kind of sickly and gross. Even though we think of sunlight as shining yellow, the light that it provides has a blue cast to it. Incandescent light bulbs shine with a red tint to it. I could keep going! This color cast or tint that different light sources provide is known as color temperature. It can be difficult to make the color temperature of one light match the color temperature of another light, but we're going to try to match the temperatures in both your photo and the web image. There are a handful of ways to do this and I'll show you one of them in the video below.

So now that you know how to adjust color temperature, go ahead and try to match them as I showed you in the video. It is difficult! Play around in the adjustments and see what you can do to make them match.

Merging the Images and Saving

So with a good selection and the color temperature matching relatively well, now we can put the two images together. It's not very difficult, in fact it's probably the easiest part of this assignment. The video below describes the process. Don't forget that if you need to rescale (or change the size of the image) you need to hold down the shift key.

So there you have it! You now know how to put things together, so give it a try. Save the image as a PSD when your done. If you would like to print a copy, go right ahead. You'll have to send it to the 419 C1 printer. Make sure you save the image and then you can also save it to the shared drive. That's it! I hope your happy with the way our merger turned out!

I have another video here that describes how to resize and print the merger. It's really not too difficult, but I wanted to walk you through it just to avoid any confusion. It just takes a little experimenting to see how the images can be resized effectively. You don't have to print the file either, but make sure you do upload it so that I can grade it!
